Tour L (6 Days)

Marrakech > High Atlas > Ait Benhaddou > Draà Valley > Erg Chigaga > Taroudant > Agadir > Essauoira > Marrakech

Day 1

The journey goes over the High Atlas and over the 2260m high Tizi-n-Tichka Pass with its overwhelming view. The steep road lined with oak forests and walnut trees leads past the clay and stone houses of the Berber villages and mountain streams. When the pass is crossed, the steep road descends into the almost moonlike landscape of the Antiatlas until we reach Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Morocco (visit of the Kasbah Taorit)
Then we cross the Draà Valley from Agdz to Tamnougalt, where we visit an old Kasbah and make a trip to the date palms oasis. Dinner and overnight stay in a riad typical of the region.

Day 2

After breakfast at the hotel, we head south to the Oasis of the Draà Valley. The journey continues along the dunes of Tinfou to Mhamid, once a lonely oasis and an important section of the old caravan trails.

From Mhamid on we follow into the desert. In an adventurous ride by jeep on the desert tracks and between the dunes of the Sahara after about 50 km we reach the sacred oasis of Iriki, where we have lunch in the open air.

Afterwards we continue to the dunes of Erg Chigaga, which stretch for about 40 km. The golden dunes reach a height of 300 m and our bivouac is located amidst the dunes. You’ll ride your dromedary into the sunset. Enjoy the hospitality of the nomads, with the famous mint tea, the “whiskey berbère” as a welcome gift. Join dinner annd a romatic campfire before spending the night in the Berber tent.

Day 3

If you stay in the desert you should get up early to see the sun rise behind the dunes. After breakfast, we will leave with our camels for a hike into the dunes of Erg Chigaga. After about 2 hours we reach our resting place, a large tamarind in the shade of which we’ll have our lunch. Mint tea, baked bread in the hot sand, meatballs (brochettes) and of course the Moroccan salad are just fantastic in the middle of the dunes. Dinner and overnight at the Berber tent. You’ll enjoy music by the campfire.

Day 4

After breakfast, we continue our journey on the old Paris-Dakar run and reach the Lac Iriki, a salt lake, which has mostly dried up for many years only to wake up in times of increased rainfall. Our next goal will be the fossil mountain, where you can collect a few smaller fossils as a souvenir.

We leave the desert and arrive at Tazenakht, which is famous for its carpet production. Lunch and departure to Taroudant. Dinner and overnight at Riad.

Day 5

After breakfast in our riad we visit Taroudant, with the charming old town and typical bazaar. After lunch we continue to Agadir and then to the beautiful coastal Essaouira. Dinner and overnight stay in our riad in the medina.

Day 6

After breakfast in our riad we have time to explore the beautiful Essaouira with its winding streets in the medina. Do not miss the fish market and watch the seagulls dance in the wind. We’ll have lunch together before our return to Marrakech.
